America’s 250th birthday deserves an album of its own!
This is the first layout in my America 250 scrapbook, and it documents our July 4, 2026 celebration in Fredericksburg, Texas. Our day included a Main Street parade, a visit to Patriot Academy, time with family and friends, and fireworks after dark.
For this two-page layout, I used the Stampin’ Up!® Stitched Stocking Bundle in a completely unexpected way. Instead of making a Christmas project, I turned its quilting-inspired shapes into a patriotic border filled with crisp white stars, navy accents, red buttons, and kraft-colored stitched squares.

Preserving a Once-in-a-Lifetime Celebration
July 4, 2026 marked the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I knew I wanted to document more than the fireworks. I wanted this layout to capture the people, places, traditions, and little moments that made the day special.
The left page focuses on the parade and our time along Main Street. I included flags, parade entries, airplanes overhead, family photographs, and some of the treats and activities we enjoyed during the day.

Photo placement notes for the left page
- Place the photo collage in the upper-center portion of the Basic White background.
- Arrange a combination of vertical and horizontal photographs in a tight grid, leaving narrow white gutters between them.
- Allow the floral cluster in the upper-left corner to overlap both the quilt border and the edge of the photo collage.
- Add small word labels—such as “Bridge Church,” “Parade,” and “Main Street”—around the outside of the collage to identify important parts of the day.
- Reserve the lower-center portion of the page for the oversized title.
Creating a Strong Patriotic Title
The large “4th of July 2026” banner anchors the first page. The arched white title panel, deep red outline, and layered navy banner create a bold focal point without competing with the photographs.
I added the subtitle, “Celebrating Freedom Through the Texas Hill Country,” beneath the title. It gives the page a sense of place while leaving the photographs to tell the rest of the story.

When creating a large title like this, I like to repeat its colors elsewhere on the layout. The navy and red layers connect visually with the alternating cardstock blocks around the outer border.
Turning Stocking Dies into Patriotic Quilt Blocks
The border is one of my favorite parts of this project. The Stitched Stocking Bundle includes a stamp set and coordinating dies featuring quilting-inspired imagery. I rearranged the small geometric pieces to create star-like quilt blocks instead of stockings.
Each block begins with a stitched kraft square layered over either deep red or navy cardstock. White pieces form the star design, while alternating navy star centers and glossy red button-style embellishments add color and dimension.
By repeating the same block around the outside edges of both pages, I created the look of a handmade quilt framing the story.

The layered flowers help balance all those straight lines. I kept the floral palette patriotic, adding red, white, and navy blooms with warm yellow and brown centers. Green leaves and branches provide contrast and help the clusters flow naturally toward the photographs.
The Story Continues on Page Two
The right page holds more memories from our day, including our visit to Patriot Academy, meeting Benjamin Franklin and Uncle Sam, photographs with family and friends, and the evening fireworks.

Photo placement notes for the right page
- Position the photo collage slightly above the center of the page.
- Make the fireworks photograph one of the largest images so it immediately catches the eye.
- Mix people, places, and detail photographs to create a fuller account of the day.
- Place the “Benjamin Franklin” label to the left of the collage and the “Uncle Sam” label near the upper-right photograph.
- Add a decorative star-and-flower cluster at the upper-left corner and a coordinating cluster at the lower-right.
- Place the journaling directly beneath the photo collage, aligned in narrow strips to echo the clean white spaces between the photographs.

Small labels are a simple way to provide context without writing directly over the photographs. They also encourage the viewer’s eye to travel beyond the collage and into the open areas of the page.
Journaling the Meaning Behind the Memories
The journaling reads:
July 4, 2026 marked a once-in-a-lifetime milestone as America celebrated her 250th birthday. We spent the day in Fredericksburg enjoying the parade, honoring those who have served our country, visiting Patriot Academy, and celebrating alongside family and friends. From waving flags along Main Street to watching fireworks light up the night sky, every moment reminded us how thankful we are for faith, family, freedom, and the community we call home. This layout begins our America at 250 album, preserving the stories of this historic year one memory at a time.

A New America 250 Album Begins
This layout is just the beginning of my America 250 album. Over the coming months, I plan to preserve more photographs, family stories, historic places, and community celebrations connected to this milestone year.
I especially love that a Christmas-themed bundle inspired such a meaningful patriotic design. It is a wonderful reminder to look beyond a product’s original theme and imagine what its shapes, textures, and details could become.
What memories from America’s 250th birthday will you be adding to your scrapbook?
